The Guardian recently reported that sixteen English councils spent more than 80% of their core funding on adult and children’s social care last year. Further analysis by the Guardian found that councils with responsiblity for social care spent a net £42.8bn on adult and children’s services in 2025-26, equivalent to a record 71.9% of their combined core spending.

An ageing population with in increasingly complex care needs, growing children's social care demand and an inflationary environment, have created a poisonous cocktail of financial pressures that are driving many councils to the brink of bankruptcy.

But at Datnexa we believe there are solutions and changes councils can make using AI, data analytics and the embedding of innovation and prevention within their service delivery that can be used to help hard pressed councils do more with less.

In the video below our CEO, Adam Dustagheer, explains five changes councils can make to tackle and overcome the financial and organisational challenges posed by social care costs.
