Join us for an hour online at 10am every Thursday this Summer for Datnexa's AI Summer School. Get plain-English AI know-how with no tech background required.

Anyone working across public services in the broadest sense. So come along if you are in local or national government, NHS and care staff, a third sector organisation, a membership body - anyone serving a community who wants to understand AI without needing a technical background.

What will we cover?

Week 1 (6 Aug): AI Demystified

​A friendly, plain-language look at what AI actually is (and isn't), using everyday examples already showing up in everyday life.

  • Define AI, machine learning, and generative AI in plain terms

  • Separate genuine AI capability from marketing hype

  • Review live examples of AI already used in UK public services

  • Introduce common terms you'll hear again and again

  • Open Q&A on myths and misconceptions

Week 2 (13 Aug): Where AI Fits in Public Services

​A tour of where AI is already helping people and where the easy wins might be hiding in your organisation.

  • Map AI use cases across key public service areas

  • Distinguish quick-win pilots from longer-term projects

  • Share real deployment examples from the sector

  • Identify signs a service area is "AI-ready"

  • Group discussion on where your own team could benefit

Week 3 (20 Aug): Data Foundations Before AI

Why good AI starts with good data, and how to tell if yours is ready.

  • Explain why data quality makes or breaks AI projects

  • Cover the basics of information governance

  • Review common data challenges in public sector systems

  • Introduce a simple data readiness checklist

  • Discuss real examples of AI projects derailed by poor data

Week 4 (27 Aug): Ethics, Governance and Public Trust

How to keep AI fair, transparent, and trusted by the people it serves. This one will be a bit shorter as it is prerecorded session.

  • Cover the basics of responsible AI: bias, transparency, explainability

  • Look at UK AI principles and what they mean for you

  • Discuss keeping public trust when AI touches vulnerable people

  • Provide governance steps you can implement straight away

Week 5 (3 Sept): Procurement and Risk for AI Projects

A practical guide to buying AI responsibly, without the fear or the jargon.

  • Outline procurement basics relevant to AI purchases

  • Provide a simple vendor evaluation checklist

  • Flag common pitfalls to avoid

  • Introduce a proportionate approach to risk

  • Share a case study of a well-managed AI purchase
